Junior Enterprise Day

On the 13th of February, the 5th and 6th class children showcased their businesses in our school hall as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. All proceeds have been donated to Temple Street Children's Hospital. Congratulations to all of the children involved. Their enthusiasm and dedication towards their businesses was exceptional.

Skittles Rainbow Science Experiment

The children in Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class explored how they could create their own rainbows using just skittles and water.

Halloween

Halloween fun in 2nd, 3rd and 4th class learning poems and creating stories.

Our Vegetable Garden
We have been busy making drills and sowing seeds for our vegetable garden in the hope of producing potatoes, peas and carrots.
As part of our Green Schools project, we recycled barrels to accomodate our planting.
In recent weeks, Food Dudes was part of our learning about healthy eating by suppling fruits for break and vegetables for lunch. This gave us the opportunity to try out some foods that we were reluctant to eat before but gave it a go! We are now more aware of the importance of healthy foods and incorporate fruit and vegetables as part of our lunches.
As part of our art lessons, we decorated the barrels with bright colours and designs of our choice. We were delighted with our results!

Story Writing
While working on our story writing skills, we paired up with another school in Co. Westmeath. Rahugh N.S is located just outside Kilbeggan. Together we wrote two spooky stories. We were divided into two groups and brainstormed lots of ideas for a good story. Once we had agreed on the events, we wrote chapter one before sending it off to them to write chapter two. In total we wrote two chapters and they wrote two. It was really enjoyable and we were proud of the stories we had written together. It also allowed us to try out our new laptops and tablets as we all got to type some of the stories!

Green School

We received our fourth Green Flag in 2015. This one was for Travel. We are proud to have been the first primary school in Offaly to ever receive a Green flag!
For the next two school years we will be working towards our fifth flag for Biodiversity. Bio means life and diversity means all different types. In December we had an activity workshop with a lady who told us all about Biodiversity. She talked about all living things including fungi, animals, humans and plants. Then we completed an art activity which was fun.

Happy Halloween
We all had great fun carving pumpkins for Halloween- even though it was a very messy job!!
Some of us had never carved a pumpkin before.

We removed the top and began by scooping out all the seeds and filling from the inside. Then we drew a face on the front and this was cut out for us. They looked amazing when we had finished.

The finished products were used at a wedding Halloween weekend as table centrepieces!
Scarecrow Sculptures!
We used clay to design and mould the head and face of a scarecrow. Before they had dried we placed straw around the head so make them look more like a scarecrow and pushed a lollypop stick into the head to later make the body.
When they had dried, we used fabric to 'dress' them in our own designs. We were really happy with them.
