Cumann na mBunscoil Final 22nd May 2023
*Rashina NS 5-3 Tullamore Educate Together NS 1-7*
Rashina NS had a great win in the Cumann na mBunscoil Football Final in O’Connor Park, Tullamore on Monday 22nd May.
The Tullamore outfit took an early lead but Rashina patiently grew into the game and went into the break three points to the good. The girls and boys defended brilliantly in the second half and kept the score board ticking over the other end. A great display of skill and teamwork all over the field.
It was wonderful to see all 25 players get game time in a hard fought four point win. This win represents all the great efforts of the pupils and a particular mention goes to Andrew Minnock for his help in preparing the team.

Return to School March 1st 2021 Junior Infants - Second Class
Dear Parents,
I hope this finds you and all your families well. On behalf of all the staff, I would like to thank all families for their continued support and engagement in remote learning since Christmas up to this point.
As you have already heard, the Government has announced its phased reopening plan for schools.
Junior & Senior Infants and First & Second Classes will return to school on Monday, March 1st. School starts at 9am. Supervision from 8.50am.
The plan hopes for a return to school for Third to Sixth classes in mid-March. These classes will continue to engage in remote learning until then.
Parents must fill in a ‘Return to Educational Facility Parental Declaration Form’ for their child before he/she returns to school on March 1st. The declaration form is available to download in the Covid-19 section of the school website. Please fill it in and return by email to [email protected]. We would also like to remind parents not to congregate outside the school when school reopens next week.
We, as a staff, look forward to welcoming all our pupils back to school in the coming weeks. The health and safety of all our students and staff will remain a priority in the weeks and months ahead.
Thanks in advance for helping with the safe return to school for all.
Kind regards,
Leo Guinan.
School Principal.

Letter to Parents - 7th January 2021
Dear Parents,
I hope this finds you, your children and your families well during these uncertain times. As you know, the Government has called for remote learning to take place from Monday, January 11th until the end of the month.
All teachers in Rashina NS will use Seesaw to engage with their pupils. This app proved to be user friendly with our pupils before Christmas and we hope this will continue next week. We all understand the many challenges involved with remote learning but we encourage all of our families to engage as best they can.
We will focus mainly on the three core subjects - English, Maths and Gaeilge. Teachers will assign manageable work each morning for 9am. Teachers will be online during school hours and will answer questions, correct work and give feedback through Seesaw.
You can collect your child’s books at school tomorrow Friday 8th between 2pm and 3.30pm or Saturday 9th between 11am and 12.30pm. Books were bagged by staff yesterday afternoon and online learning codes are in each child’s pack.
If you have any further questions over the coming weeks that can’t be answered through Seesaw you can contact teachers on -
• Junior/Senior Infants - [email protected]
• 1st/2nd class - [email protected]
• 3rd/4th class - [email protected]
• 5th/6th class - [email protected]
• Ms. Guinan & Ms. Grehan’s Learning Support Team - [email protected]
We encourage all children to go out for lots of fresh air and exercise daily during the coming weeks. Please continue to cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow, wash your hands and keep a 2m distance.
Please take care and stay safe.
Kind regards,
Leo Guinan.
School Principal.

Our Outdoor Aistear Area
The Junior room have been very busy since September exploring the new addition to their classroom. They are enjoying developing their fine and gross motor skills as well as their imaginations through water play, the mud kitchen, chalk boards and outdoor games. The children are always eager to get their hands dirty and get stuck in!
The pupils and teachers have really enjoyed participating in Science Week. The children loved investigating and predicting the outcome of the many experiments explored this week and sharing their findings with other groups.
Back to School
All the staff at Rashina National School have been working hard to adapt the classrooms and implement social distancing measures throughout the school to ensure the safe return of all pupils tomorrow.

Rashina National School Returning safely to school 24/08/2020
Dear Parents,
I hope you all continue to be safe and well. This is the second letter you have received. Please read it along with the first letter also available on the school website. The Board of Management and staff in Rashina NS have formulated the plan below to ensure the safe return of all to school. This is a live document, subject to change, according to the best medical advice and guidelines from NPHET, the HSE and the DES.
All of our staff will help to make the school a safe and happy place for every one of our pupils. At the beginning, school will seem a bit different. However, we will settle into the new routines in a short while. There will however, be inconveniences, but I’m sure you’ll appreciate that these are necessary for the safety of all.
Books/ School Requisites: All books, pencil cases etc. will be left in school. They won’t go home. Please ensure that everything is labelled. We ask you to ensure your child has the required writing equipment available at home also.
School Bags-Books can be brought to school on the first morning in a school bag and will remain in school. Children can then leave their school bag at home until asked to bring it to school again. We will be reviewing these procedures at the end of September.
Lunchboxes- We ask that children use a hard lunchbox which will be easily cleaned. If using a lunch bag, it will need to be one which can be easily wiped and sanitized.
Homework- There won’t be any formal written homework during the first month of school. An emphasis will be placed on learning homework, online work and reading. We will be working on getting Seesaw up and running with every child during the month of September, so your child could be asked to upload something as part of their homework. This is to prepare ourselves, just in case we’re under lockdown again during the winter.
School Uniform There is no guidance or advice to say that school uniforms or tracksuits should be washed every day and this is probably not practical for most families. We will follow our usual practice in relation to uniforms and tracksuits. Uniforms should be worn every day, except on P.E. days, or when otherwise requested by teachers. As a school, we strongly advise that children should wear their school uniforms or tracksuits only for school related activities. Ideally, uniforms and tracksuits should be taken off straight after the child arrives home from school for the day. Wearing of uniform in after-school facilities, shops, during after-school activities, etc. should be avoided where possible.
Sanitizer– will be available on at all entry and exit points of the classroom. If you wish your child may have their own bottle of hand sanitizer which can remain beside them on their desk/in their pencil case.
Break Times/Yard Breaks- The risk of virus transmission from contact with outside surfaces and play areas is low. The school will be facilitating staggered breaks/ lunch times with each classroom bubble having a designated area.
Special Education Teachers (SET) and Special Needs Assistants (SNAs)
Staff members (particularly Learning Support Teachers and SNAs) can rotate between areas/classes but this will be minimized where possible. When rotation occurs, agreed sanitising routines will be observed. In keeping with our Special Education Policy, learning support will be provided by a blended approach of in class support and withdrawal. The provision of support will be organised to ensure our support teachers will work as far as possible, within the confines of a bubble.
· The tables and chairs in SET rooms will be wiped clean after each group/ individual use.
After School
At present we will not be able to facilitate afterschool for junior and senior infant children. This will be reviewed at the end of September.
Please note:
· All visitors coming into the building will have to sign in and complete a contact tracing log.
· All visitors must wear a facemask for the duration of their visit.
If your child is sick or has a temperature, please keep him/her at home
Parents need to be contactable at all times. The importance of this cannot be stressed more strongly. Two phone numbers which are accessible at all times, need to be on record in the office. If your child falls ill, you will need to be contactable immediately. Also, in the unfortunate circumstance that we have a case of COVID-19 in your child’s class, the HSE will need to contact trace you straight away.
As stated above, the school plan for reopening is a live document and is subject to change. We, the staff and Board of Management of Rashina N.S, thank you in advance for your compliance and co-operation with the above plan. There is no such thing as the “perfect plan”, but what we have drawn up is our best shot at keeping our school community safe. We will always do our best for your children and look forward to a pleasant and successful year ahead despite this pandemic.
Best wishes to you all, keep safe and we look forward to meeting you all again soon.
Patricia Hennessy
